Did you know that more bombs were dropped on Darwin than there was on Pearl Harbour in the USA?
It was the first and largest single attack ever mounted by a foreign power on Australia.
On the 19th February 1942, 242 Japanese aircraft attacked ships in Darwin’s harbour and the town’s two airfields in an attempt to prevent the Allies (countries seeking to stop Germany, Italy and the Japanese) from using them as bases. Darwin was only lightly defended and the Japanese inflicted heavy losses at little cost to themselves.
This half day tour is packed with information, on-site visits, and memorabilia of little known historical events of WWII in Darwin.
Garry gives an attention-keeping and very informative tour with passionate upbeat commentary.
